About Chuck Johnson
Memphis contemporary artist, Chuck Johnson earned both his BA and MA in Painting and Art History from Memphis State University. After serving in the Army in Germany, he worked at Brooks Art Gallery and taught at Rhodes College. He then moved to Washington, D.C., where he spent over 20 years at the Pentagon. In 2003, Johnson returned to Memphis to focus on his art. He taught at Memphis College of Art and the University of Memphis. Now retired, Chuck focuses on his painting and bonsi gardening. His style has grown from neo-expressionism to geometric abstractions. He often focuses on ariel views. He loves how patterns and modern art meet, creating works that invite viewers to explore both the familiar and the new. For Johnson, art is a way to spark imagination, reflection, and well-being. He is acclaimed nationally as a Memphis contemporary artist.
